Property Accountant

The Property Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for assigned apartment properties.  In order to achieve the general purpose of this position the following duties may be required:  

Essential Job Functions: 
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliation’s, balance sheet, pre-paid, security deposit and accrued expense reconciliations
  • Record and deposit payments received (i.e., refunds, utility reimbursements, etc.) into the appropriate financial institution bank account
  • Investigate bank statement reconciling items in a timely manner.  Immediately notify the Controller of any unusual items
  • Calculate, process and post debt balances and payments in accordance with individual financing agreements
  • Prepare and book monthly journal entries related to financial statements
  • Tracking of property tax and insurance payments
  • Analyzing monthly financial statements
  • Verify the propriety of recorded payables and receivables, including preparation of monthly management fees, asset management fees and construction management fees
  • Assist in budget preparation and tax calculations
  • Investigating budget variances
  • Accurately completing financial package and submitting to Controller for review in accordance with month end close schedule
  • Re-forecasting annual budgets on a monthly basis
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly reporting packages in accordance with individual financial agreements
  • Ensure all audit/tax adjustments are posted in a timely manner
  • Monthly activities encompass processing and storing the various month-end reports
  • Provide excellent customer service on-site personnel. Pro-actively communicate with Property Management teams
  • Special project requests
  • Willingly offer assistance and training as needed
  • Adhere to monthly schedules of recurring credits

  • Solves problems by using judgment based upon knowledge of existing management policies, and departmental practices and procedures.

  • Exercise initiative in organizing and completing assigned tasks according to established guidelines.
Experience/Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting from four-year College or University; Minimum 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Property Accounting experience in multifamily or hospitality but not required
  • Proficient in Word, Outlook, Excel and Adobe
  • Requires excellent people skills and the ability to effectively work with corporate, on-site personnel as well as vendors.
  • Requires high level of organization and time management skills
  • Ability to research and resolve issues independently with moderate supervision
  • Requires high level of attention to detail
